Forget what common sense says… fall or winter is the best time to get a dog! I adopted my first dog in the middle of February and my second two years later in October, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Chicago street fests and baseball games are pretty much at a close and you will soon find yourself home much more often.
Getting your dog on a crate and potty training schedule is so much easier when you aren’t running out for hours to enjoy summer in Chicago.
Do you envision yourself reaching for a blanket in the coming months? Ever resorted to a Snuggie or heating pad to stay comfortable? Did you realize dogs come with their own heating engine? Sink back into the couch with a dog on your lap and forget about needing a blanket. Also, with a sleeping dog on your lap it is totally acceptable to demand someone else refill your drink or get you a snack.
Ever suffer from the winter blues? Dog walking is the perfect way to ensure you get the necessary exercise and sunshine to combat the down moods. You can’t help but feel better after a nice brisk walk after the season’s first snow.
Finally, Halloween costumes… a dog dressed as a hot dog or a witch or cowboy. Nuff said. Well almost enough… AnimalSense offers fall and winter classes.
