Dog parks are everywhere these days. People feel that their dogs need to interact off leash with other dogs. However, I don’t think a dog park is a good place for many dogs because often, you’ll see dogs bullying other dogs and learning bad behaviors. At the same time, I know that people and some dogs enjoy them. So, I was excited to learn about a new tool while I was at the Association of Pet Dog Trainers conference to help pet parents when they are at the dog park.
This app was created by Sue Sternberg, who is one of the biggest names in the dog world. She has over 23 years of canine behavior experience. She’s worked as an animal control officer, a behavior consultant at the ASPCA, a kennel and animal shelter owner, a successful competitor in a variety of dog sports and a teacher of dog trainers.
She created this app to help dog owners assess if the dog park is a safe place for their dogs. It helps owners figure out what kind of play style their dog has and helps match them up with suitable playmates. It has an extensive video and photo library of dog behaviors and shows the difference between aggression and play. You can even video your own dog and send it in for a personal behavior analysis and receive personalized training tips while you’re at the park. The Red Alert button helps you terminate dangerous behaviors before an injury occurs.
I think this is such an amazing app and tool for dog owners to understand what is actually going on at the dog park.
Take a look at the app and let me know what you think here in the comments.
