As many of you know, AnimalSense was featured on WGN News’ Around Town a few weeks ago. One of those segments involved four adorable 9-week-old coonhound mix puppies. I had borrowed the puppies from a friend who fosters dogs for Almost Home Foundation. I naively thought I could bring the pups home with me the night before, use them for our segment, and whisk them back to their mom and foster home.
Four puppies came into our home the night of January 6th– did I mention that was my birthday as well? It helps to justify why only three puppies went back to their mama the next day. Somehow, some way, one little black and white girl wormed her way into our hearts, our laps, and our home and has refused to leave.
Don’t get me wrong, I am absolutely thrilled. Everyone in the house adores this little girl with her soulful eyes, soft belly and puppy breath that I could smell for hours. Even Georgie, my little man of the house terrier has fallen under her spell, romping around the house with her and patiently letting her grab at his fur and flop on him.
Yes, even at night, as I’m trudging down the stairs at 3 am to go face the bitter cold for the 3rd time that night with a puppy in my arms, I’m thrilled. But let’s face it, puppies are A LOT of work. I don’t know how we’d do it if our family didn’t have the kind of schedules where she is around someone almost all the time.
And in the meantime… I’d like to introduce you to Khaleesi. Stay tuned, I’m sure you’ll be reading about her for quite some time!
