I love being a dog trainer. As someone who’s been around animals my whole life, it truly is a perfect fit, and a natural progression for me. I’ve been involved in the boarding and daycare, grooming, handling, and training aspects of the doggy world, and I couldn’t imagine doing anything else. I work with dogs, own dogs, and am often the go-to person when friends have dog-related questions.
In other words, I’m the person who goes to a friend’s home and finds the weird lump on the dog or gets lost in conversation with the neighbor about her new puppy. I notice if a dog has crazy long nails or get excited about how well mannered she is.
Fortunately, I recognize my dog obsessiveness, and do everything I can to keep it under wraps. It’s not that I’m out to criticize or critique- anyone looking at my dogs will see they are FAR from perfect- but I simply can’t help but notice these things.
It makes me wonder, does everyone do this to some extent? Do dentists pay special attention to people’s teeth when they are having conversations? Do interior decorators go to house parties and imagine how they would have done things differently?
