One of my favorite things to do with my dogs is to sit back and watch them run. Living in an apartment in Chicago without a backyard means this is not something we are able to do everyday.
Every once in a while I sneak over to the closest baseball diamond and let them run around for ten minutes as I constantly check all corners for 1) other dog owners; 2) police or 3) one of my dogs hightailing it towards the street. I never truly enjoy myself there and by the time I am leashing my dogs up, I am telling myself that I am lucky nothing went wrong.
But I have found dog-running heaven for the city dweller and it is just thirty minutes from the city (in good traffic). Prairie Wolf Dog Exercise Area is a 44-acre area that is entirely fenced and features two entrances to a swimming pond, large fields, and forested areas. It takes me at least thirty minutes to stroll the perimeter with my dogs and that doesn’t even count a break at the pond. It is truly my favorite way to spend a couple of hours.
There is a $10 fee, which is paid at the entrance of the park. The entrance and parking area are located on Waukegan Road (Route 43) south of Old Mill Road and north of Half Day Road (Route 22) in Lake Forest. Check out more information HERE.
