Class Descriptions

No matter where your dog is in terms of training or development, we have a class that can help set your dog up for a lifetime of success! Check out the current class offerings below; to register, click on one of the links below or go to our current class schedule.

If you’re not sure which class is right for your dog’s needs, call 312-564-4570 or email us at and we’ll be happy to advise you!

All Puppy

This is the single most important class you will ever attend! Intensive socialization plus an introduction to basic cues such as attention, sit, and down will start you and your puppy off on the right paw. We will discuss housetraining, crate training, handling, mouthing, chewing, and more. Developed for all puppies up to 8 months old, this class also features polite leash walking and overall basic manners.

Canine Good Citizen

Do you want your dog to have a positive impact on our community? The AKC Canine Good Citizen program is designed to recognize dogs for good manners. It’s also a great training step for people interested in animal-assisted therapy work. This class teaches the skills necessary to pass the test, which is offered by the AKC at various times and locations. All ages welcome; please contact us at if you have any questions about the readiness of your dog for this class.

Daytime Dog

Finally, a class for people and dogs who are happier training during the day! If your evenings seem to leave no room for anything extra, or if you and your dog simply just work better during the day, this is the class for you.  Learn a host of helpful behaviors that will strengthen your bond with your dog and get you home for dinner, helping with homework or your favorite reality show!  And yes, you can bring the kids!

Field Trip

Only offered during the warmer months, Field Trip allows you to take your training on the road. Every week we meet at a new location to train, practice and have tons of fun (first week meets at training center). Be prepared to dress for the weather and bring a little spending money on most weeks.  Dogs must be at least 8 months old with a basic skill set and friendly to other dogs on leash.

Focus! Distraction Training for the Real World

Are squirrels, strangers, noises and other distractions stealing your dog’s undivided attention when you need it most? Is there a polite “indoor” and crazy “outdoor” version of your dog? It is time to teach your dog that YOU are the most important thing in their world. Come prepared to work – the results will amaze you! This class is structured for dogs ages 8 months and up.

It’s Never Too Late

Is your dog new to your home or have you been putting off training for a while? Well, as the title states, it’s never too late to start. This class will help you teach your dog manners and show you how they apply to real-life situations.

Middle School Manners

Have you noticed that your dog has picked up some interesting new behaviors? It’s a case of puppy puberty! Middle School Manners is here to help you navigate the sometimes difficult adolescent stage of canine development. This class addresses canine teenage challenges while working to help you take your dog’s basic manners to the next level. (For dogs 8 months to 2 years, pre-requisite: Puppy Grade School, Fido Foundation, It’s Never Too Late or instructor approval.)

Puppy Grade School

Is your puppy getting older and those once-cute behaviors aren’t so cute any more? Are you ready for the next class? Did you just get your puppy? If any or all of these things apply, this is a great place to start training and learn behaviors that apply to real life situations. Remember – practice makes perfect so don’t be afraid to take this one twice! Puppies 5-8 months old.

Puppy Head Start (4 Week Class, Anytime Enrollment)

Getting your puppy’s training started off on the right paw is one of the most important things you can do to build a long-lasting relationship with your dog. This class focuses on socialization to all things a puppy will encounter in human family which will build confidence in how they experience their new home. We will also address puppy mouthing, crate and potty training and appropriate puppy play while we introduce them to a few basic behaviors that encourage them to focus on you. Let us help you get your pup started on a lifetime of success!  Puppies 8 weeks – 5 months old.

Recall & Leash Manners

Walking nicely on leash and coming when called are two of the most essential skills for dogs and their owners. This class offers intensive training in both skills and encourages your dog to pay attention despite distractions. This class is structured for dogs ages 8 months and up.

All 6-week classes are $225; the 4-week Puppy Head Start classes are $150. If your dog came from a rescue or shelter, let us know and we’ll take $25 off your first class!  (Some exceptions apply.)

I am happy to give AnimalSense my two thumbs (and my puppy’s four paws) up!
