Staff Trainer
Mary’s training experience is a culmination of her education, passion and experiences starting at the early age of eight. Eight? That’s right, eight! Mary’s father was a dog breeder and trainer and very early on he recognized Mary’s instinctual abilities with dogs. He had her teaching her first class while the rest of us were playing hopscotch and Pac Man.
Until joining our AnimalSense team, Mary worked as a Lead Instructor for 12 years at Chicago’s renowned Anti Cruelty Society’s School of Dog Obedience. While at Anti Cruelty, Mary taught hundreds of classes, trained shelter volunteers, presented volunteer orientations and dog behavior and safety workshops. She was an integral part of class development, public education materials and mentoring over 30 apprentices for dog training positions.
Mary’s primary goal as a trainer is to enhance the lives of people and their dogs by supporting, coaching and educating dog owners on canine behavior while using positive and reward based techniques. Mary is fortunate to be experienced in many different training techniques, which helps her to find the perfect match for each client. She believes that a one-size-fits-all method of dog training is not the most successful, as each client is unique. She uses everyone’s instinctual abilities to create the most rewarding and enjoyable training experience for clients.
In her spare time (ha!) Mary attends numerous seminars and handles show dogs in the confirmation ring for some of her former clients’ dogs. Additionally, Mary facilitates the Chicago French Bulldog Meetup Group and presents educational seminars for them. She is a State Representative and foster mom for the French Bulldog Rescue League as well.
Mary lives in Evanston and shares her home with Stella the Diva French Bulldog and Mr. Chipper, the old man Frenchie.
