An Oak Park resident since 1995, Kelly Elvin grew up on a horse farm
in New Jersey surrounded by horses, dogs, cats, chickens and geese
and was instilled from an early age with compassion and respect for
all animals.
After graduating from Bucknell University with honors in English,
followed by law school at the University of Michigan, Kelly worked
for ten years
as a litigation attorney. Her background with animals and experiences
with her own dogs motivated her to learn more about dog training
and behavior.
Kelly is a Certified Pet Dog Trainer and a member of the Association
of Pet Dog Trainers. She worked as the staff trainer at Oak Park's
Animal Care League and currently assists homeless animals as a
volunteer for Central Indiana Lab Rescue and Adoption. She also
is a member
of the Association of Companion Animal Behavior Counselors (ACABC)
and
the Delta Society and is completing her certification as a Canine
Behavior Counselor (CBC) through the ACABC and the American Institute
of Animal
Science.
Kelly shares her life with her incredibly patient husband Matt and their dogs Boomer,
a black Labrador
retriever, Sammy, a golden retriever, and the newest member of
their pack, a black Labrador retriever named Mandy. Sammy is
a certified
Delta Society Pet Partner and Reading Education Assistance Dog.
In addition, Sammy and Kelly have earned their Level 2 title
in APDT Rally Obedience and are now competing in agility.
After years of weekend trips to their small farm in Michigan, Kelly
and
Matt have finally made a permanent move from Chicago. They and their pack are living the country life and we miss them more than words can say.
All of us wish the Elvins a safe and happy life and much success as they plan their next steps. We'll keep you posted....e
