Terri
Klimek is a life-long Chicago
area resident who has had a shelter/rescue dog (or two) in her life since her
first puppy at age 10. After working for
30+ years in the corporate and legal world, Terri wanted to do something
different with her life that didn’t involve 9-5 at an office. She knew that (1) she enjoyed people, and (2)
enjoyed dogs. While working as a
volunteer for a rescue group, Terri came to the realize that many of the dogs
that she saw come into rescue were nice dogs, but didn’t have very good
manners. While trying to decide how she
could make a difference, she came to the conclusion that dog training was a
vocation that fit well with her life, and that she could make a difference by
helping owners and their companions live together.
Terri started as a client
with AnimalSense in an effort to find a way to make life better for her overly
anxious golden George. That then lend to
an internship with AnimalSense in the Fall of 2003. She successfully completed the 2004 Purdue University’s
“DOGS” program. Like her fellow trainers
at AnimalSense, Terri is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and
attends the APDT yearly education conference, as well as attending training
seminars and courses during the year.
Terri enjoys teaching and assisting with a variety classes at
AnimalSense, as well as providing in-home assistance. She loves the experience and joy each of our
clients and dogs provide her.
Terri has been an active
volunteer with, and past board member and education coordinator for, As Good as
Gold - Golden Retriever Rescue of Northern Illinois (AGaG) since it began, and
was active with another rescue before it.
Her activities for AGaG include fostering puppies every now and then,
fundraising, and evaluating dogs for intake.
Terri and her husband Paul
make Westchester their home and share it with
their rescued golden George. When they
get the time, they enjoy traveling, music and spending time with their friends.
