Kelly Elvin, CPDT
Head Staff Trainer

An Oak Park resident since 1995, Kelly Elvin grew up on a horse farm in New Jersey surrounded by horses, dogs, cats, chickens and geese and was instilled from an early age with compassion and respect for all animals.

Boomer, Sammy, Sarah and Kelly.

After graduating from Bucknell University with honors in English, followed by law school at the University of Michigan, Kelly worked as a litigation attorney.   Her background with animals and  experiences with her own dogs motivated her to learn more about dog training and behavior.

Kelly is a member of the Association of Pet Dog Trainers and recently became a Certified Pet Dog Trainer.  Her professional interests focus on enhancing the communication between people and their dogs to encourage a mutually rewarding and fun relationship.

Kelly has worked as the staff trainer at Oak Park's Animal Care League and currently assists homeless animals as a volunteer for Central Indiana Lab Rescue and Adoption (CILRA).  She also is a member of the Association of Companion Animal Behavior Counselors (ACABC) and the Delta Society and is completing her certification as a Canine Behavior Counselor (CBC) through the ACABC and the American Institute of Animal Science.

Outside of AnimalSense, Kelly spends her time with her incredibly patient husband Matt (often seen helping out at AnimalSense) and their dogs Boomer, a black Labrador retriever, and Sammy, a golden retriever (always remembering Tugger and Sarah at the bridge).  Sammy is a certified Delta Society Pet Partner and Reading Education Assistance Dog and loves his weekly pet therapy visits with children and seniors alike.  In addition, Sammy and Kelly compete in APDT Rally Obedience and recently attained their Level 1 title Magna Cum Laude.  Kelly’s latest passion is canine freestyle and she hopes to share this with AnimalSense students in the near future!  When they're not doggin' around, you may find Kelly and Matt enjoying a bike ride or planning their next trip to visit with friends and family somewhere around the US or Canada.
